Step 5
Detox your wardrobe
Reserve at least a full afternoon to go through your wardrobe piece by piece and get rid of anything that doesn’t make you feel confident and inspired.
Why
A thorough closet detox is a hugely important step on your road to a better wardrobe. Why? Because you need a clear canvas before you can add new stuff on top. You need to see what areas in your closet are already well-stocked and where there are gaps. You need to get a super clear overview of how your current closet compares to your new-found personal style, so you can set priorities when it’s time to shop for new pieces.
Plus, the closet detox gives you a chance to analyse what all those rarely-worn pieces have in common, so you can make a mental note to avoid these from now on.
How
Pick up every single piece in your wardrobe and assess it based on a range of criteria, including how well it fits your style, how well-made and durable it is, and whether it fits in with the rest of your wardrobe. Check out the closet detox cheat below if you need a little decision making help. Everything that you love goes back into your closet. Take broken or ill-fitting pieces to a tailor, and donate or sell the rest.
